MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Department has claimed that load shedding has been reduced from 6 hours to 3-4 hours on all feeders in the Muzaffarabad division.
In a press release issued on Friday, the department spokesperson denied reports of load shedding from 9 pm to 6 am on any feeder in Muzaffarabad from June 19, 2025. The department has expressed gratitude to PESCO officials for their cooperation in achieving this improvement in power supply.
The spokesperson further said that due to the lowest electricity prices, electricity consumption has increased by 45% in the South Region and 29% in the North Region.
To address this surge in demand, in view of the Prime Minister’s instructions, the department has made advanced plans to upgrade new and existing feeders, the statement read.
Furthermore, the Electricity Department spokesperson said that the department has started purchasing equipment for development schemes to improve the existing electricity network and reduce voltage drop issues. These new schemes will be completed within a year, it added.
“The installation of power transformers in Hattian Grid Station has been completed with the support of relevant federal government institutions, and its testing will start from tomorrow, June 28,” the press release added.
The spokesperson added that seven news schemes were approved on May 30 in Muzaffarabad, with a total cost of Rs 308 million, to improve/upgrade the existing electricity network and solve the problems of voltage drop.
The process of purchasing equipment has started by completing the assessment on the tender to start work on the new schemes, and these new schemes will be completed within a year.
The spokesperson expressed concern about excessive electricity use and urged the public to use electricity judiciously to ensure a stable power supply in the future.
