GILGIT (Kashmir English): A formal notification has been issued for the formation of the caretaker cabinet of Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the notification issued by the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, the caretaker cabinet includes 12 ministers and 2 advisors.
On the recommendation of Caretaker Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Justice (R) Yar Muhammad, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who is also the Chairman of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council, approved the caretaker cabinet.
Sajid Ali Baig, Engineer Altaf Hussain, Ghulam Abbas, Colonel (R) Ibrar Ismail, Mehrdad, Sharaf Din, Maulana Sarwar Shah, Raja Shahbaz Khan, Mumtaz Hussain, Dr. Niaz Ali, Syed Adeel Shah and Bahadur Ali are the cabinet members, while the advisors are Syeda Fatima and Abdul Hakeem.
The caretaker cabinet has been entrusted with important responsibilities for conducting transparent and impartial elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The purpose of the caretaker setup is to restore public trust and make the interim government functional within the constitutional and legal framework.
The formation of the caretaker cabinet is being welcomed by public, political and social circles of Gilgit-Baltistan, however, the performance of the new cabinet is also being closely monitored.
It is expected that the caretaker team will prioritize transparency, merit and good governance.
It is to be noted that on November 24, when the government’s term ended, Justice (R) Yar Muhammad was made the caretaker Chief Minister but he formed his cabinet a month later. Later, he elections in Gilgit-Baltistan were also postponed.
