ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The 9th of Muharram-ul Haram is being observed today with due solemnity and respect to pay homage to the sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.
Majalis will be held in all small and major cities, while processions of Tazia and Alam will also be taken out in different cities.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi Traffic Plan for 9th Muharram
The Islamabad Traffic Police has released the 9th Muharram procession, 2017 traffic plan. Many roads will remain closed during the procession from 7 AM until it concludes.
The main procession of 9th Muharram will commence at 1 PM from Imambargah Isna Ashari G-6/2. Diversions would be implemented some hours prior.
The rally would pass through G-6 service road & Saddar Road; take a right turn towards Street 33, then a left to Street 40 towards the Municipal road. The procession will culminate at the Imambargah G-6/2, after passing via Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, Police Station Abpara, Poly Clinic, and Luqman Hakeem Road.
Closed Roads for 9th Muharram-ul-Haram
- Fazal-e-Haq Road is closed in both directions between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk.
- Suhrawardy Road is closed in both directions from Daman-e-Koh Chowk of Seventh Avenue towards Chand Tara Chowk. Besides, from the outer loop of Blue Area to the Seventh Avenue Chowk.
- Saddar Road is closed in both directions from Iqbal Hall to Melody Chowk.
- The municipal road is closed in both directions from Lal Masjid to Shuhada Chowk and GPO Chowk.
- Luqman Hakeem Road will remain totally closed from Poly Clinic to Iqbal Hall.
Alternative Routes
- Between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and China Chowk: Jinnah Avenue
- Between Kulsum Plaza Chowk and F-8 Sector: Jinnah Avenue and Margalla Road, open portion of Suhrawardy Road
towards Abpara: Suhrawardy Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road.
Citizens are advised to obey traffic signs, cooperate with the police, and avoid the procession route until normalcy resumes. Drivers must allow extra travel time in their journeys. They are advised to use the recommended alternative routes for smoother travel. Visitors have been asked to park their vehicles only at authorized sites.
