ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Islamabad Traffic Police has made the security and traffic arrangements with regard to the main procession of 9th Muharram, which will start from Imambargah Isna Ashari in G-6/2 at 1:00 PM and will culminate at the same point.
Many roads of the federal capital would be closed from 7:00 am to the conclusion of the procession. The Traffic Police said that security concerns have necessitated the diversion of traffic and road closures a few hours before the procession.
Following is the route of procession that would go through: G-6 Service Road, Saddar Road, Street 33, Street 40, Municipal Road, then pass through Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, Polyclinic/Aabpara Police Station on Luqman Hakeem Road, and finally will end at the Imambargah Isna Ashari at G-6/2.
List of closed roads
All traffic will remain closed for both sides on Fazal-e-Haq Road from Kulsum Plaza Chowk to China Chowk.
Traffic will remain closed for both sides on Suhrawardy Road from Daman-e-Koh Chowk (7th Avenue) to Chand Tara Chowk (blue area), including the blue area outer road to the 7th Avenue Chowk. Road traffic between Iqbal Hall and Melody Chowk on Saddar Road will be closed. Traffic would not be allowed from Lal Masjid to Shuhada Chowk, GPO Chowk on the Municipal road.
Luqman Hakeem Road from Iqbal Hall to Polyclinic would be totally closed to traffic.
Public Advisory
The public is requested to avoid the procession route and to cooperate with the deployed traffic officers to avoid inconvenience while traveling.
According to the traffic advisory, they are also requested to give extra time to their movement, particularly in case of travel around G-6, Aabpara, and the Blue area. The participants of the procession are urged to use only the parking points.
Islamabad Traffic Police have appealed to the public to seek guidance from traffic officials while using diversion roads to reach their destination.
Traffic is advised to use Jinnah Avenue, Margalla Road, Suhrawardy Road, and Shaheed-e-Millat Road, and other alternative routes for onward journey instead of the procession’s route. Motorists going from Kullsum Plaza to China Chowk should avoid the Fazal-e-Haq Road and instead should use Jinnah Avenue.
