ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A westerly wave is likely to enter the upper parts of the country from the evening or night of June. During this time, humid winds coming from the Arabian Sea are continuously entering the eastern and central parts of the country, while humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to enter the upper parts of the country from July 02.
Under the influence of these weather systems, there will be rains with gusty winds and thunderstorms in different parts of the country, which is expected to gradually reduce the intensity of the ongoing heat and humidity in the country.
In Kashmir, intermittent rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms and heavy rain at a few places is likely from July 01 to 06 in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bhimber, Bagh, Haveli, Sidhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from July 01 to 05, thunderstorms and intermittent rain are expected at isolated places in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Waziristan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan, while heavy rain is expected at a few places.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, intermittent rain with thunderstorms and intermittent rain is expected at Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from July 01 to 05.
Weather situation in Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh
In Punjab, rain is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal from July 01 to 06.
While from July 03 to 06, intermittent rain with gusty winds and thundershowers and heavy rain at a few places are expected in Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Okara, Kasur, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur.
In Balochistan, rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected in northern and northeastern districts including Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Harnai, Sibi, Barkhan and Dera Bugti from July 1 to 4. In Sindh, rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms are likely in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Qambar Shahdad Kot and Naushahro Feroze from July 3 to 4.
Potential Hazards during Rain
The Meteorological Department has warned of possible impacts, that there is a possibility of damage to vulnerable structures such as solar panels, electricity poles, and billboards, etc., due to strong winds and lightning.
Due to heavy rains, urban flooding has been predicted in the urban areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad from July 1 to 4.
In addition, flash flooding is likely to occur in local rivers and streams of Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan and mountain rain streams of DG Khan from July 2 to 5.
There is also a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiat and Kashmir from July 2 to 6.
Precautions for tourists
Tourists and travelers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period and exercise extreme caution while traveling. Farmers have been directed to organize their agricultural activities keeping in mind the weather conditions and ensure proper care of their livestock.
