ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The World Economic Forum (WEF) has strongly supported the creation of new provinces to promote decentralisation and improve governance and effective public services as Pakistan’s population continues to grow.
In an analysis, the WEF’s Centre for Regions, Trade and Geopolitics said that the country’s population is projected to reach 265 million by 2030, raising questions about whether the existing four-province structure can effectively meet the needs of an increasingly large and diverse population.
The analysis argues that administrative boundaries and institutions need to evolve when population growth outpaces the systems responsible for providing public services. It maintains that bringing decision-making, resources, and accountability closer to citizens could help improve governance.
