Weather update: Heavy rain, flash flood expected during monsoon

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) of the NDMA has issued an alert regarding the situation of rains and water flow in rivers across the country from 06 to 10 July 2026.

According to the alert issued by the NDMA, due to the second monsoon spell and the westerly winds, rains are likely to continue in the northern and northeastern regions from 06 to 10 July.

The alert said that due to the expected rains, there is a possibility of a sudden increase in water flow in mountain streams, rainwater channels and rivers.

According to the NDMA, due to the rains, there is a possibility of flooding in the Indus River, Yasin River, Ghizer River, Kelek River, Mintaka River, Daril River and local streams in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Similarly, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Lothko River, Ashirai Khor, Daral River, Alai Khor, Garai Khor, Khan Khor, Palas River, Siren River, Dhor River, Jundi River, Bara River, Gomal River, Tank Zam and local streams are expected to increase in water flow.

Water Flow likely to Increase

According to the alert, there is a possibility of a significant increase in water flow in Azad Kashmir’s Neelum River, Poonch River, Jhelum River, Mahal River and their tributaries.

The NDMA has said that due to the rains, there is a possibility of local flooding in another Phalko Nallah of Sialkot, Ben, Basantar and Dek Nallahs of Narowal, while in the mountain rain streams of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Similarly, in Balochistan, there is a possibility of an increase in water flow in the Zhob River, Kangri River and rain streams of Barkhan, Loralai, Mastung and Kalat.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of PDMA Punjab has said that monsoon rains have started across the province, and rain is likely in most districts of Punjab from today to July 8.

The PDMA spokesperson said that cloudy weather is expected in the provincial capital Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab and Sargodha.

During the same period, rain is also likely in Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot and surrounding areas.

According to the PDMA, rain is also expected in Chiniot, Okara, Kasur, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.
