WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): A majority of the US Senate has backed President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Iran, as they, through voting, blocked a bipartisan resolution aiming to stop the air war and require that any hostilities against the Islamic Republic be authorised by Congress.
According to an international news agency, as voting continued, the tally in the 100-member chamber was 52-47 not to advance the war powers resolution.
In the 100-member Senate, the resolution was rejected by 52 votes to 47 as a majority of senators supported military action against Iran.
The resolution, introduced by members from both the Democratic and Republican parties, demanded that airstrikes on Iran be stopped and that congressional approval be sought for these attacks.
The Republican Party of President Trump holds a majority in the US Senate, with 53 seats for Republicans and 45 for the opposition Democrats while two independent candidates support the Democrats.
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump, in an address at a roundtable conference, threatened that anyone who wants to become a leader in Iran will meet their demise.
Trump announces to continue attacks on Iran
Trump announced the continuation of attacks on Iran, stating that the Iranian leadership is being rapidly eliminated.
President Trump said if they had not attacked Iran, it would have attacked them.
On the other hand, Iran said it will target Israeli nuclear site if invading forces sought regime change in the Islamic Republic.
Semi-official ISNA news agency quoted an Iranian military official to say that Iran will target the Israeli nuclear site of Dimona if Israel and the US seek regime change.
