WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): The US and Iranian presidents have signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war, after which the accord has come into effect.
Both the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the White House have confirmed the signatures of both presidents.
According to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the final text of the memorandum of understanding between the US has been agreed upon, and both parties have signed electronically.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that the presidents of Iran and the US have signed the text of the agreement.
According to the spokesperson, the meeting in Switzerland on Friday was not for signing the agreement. “A decision on whether a meeting will take place in Switzerland is expected in the next few hours.”
The spokesperson further stated that the participation of negotiating teams in Geneva will remain as scheduled.
On the other hand, White House officials have also confirmed that President Donald Trump has signed the memorandum of understanding with Iran.
Earlier, an American website claimed that the US and Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the end of the war and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz ahead of schedule, and that this agreement has now come into effect.
The agreement was finalized during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron inside the historic palace.
The signing marked a major diplomatic milestone after months of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
US-Iran deal
According to the website, the agreement was initially scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. However, a diplomat from a mediating country and another source stated on Wednesday that discussions were ongoing between the parties to complete this process earlier and begin implementation sooner.
According to diplomatic sources, the purpose of this development was to open the Strait of Hormuz as early as possible, as both parties had already agreed on this matter.
Sources said one reason for this process could also be the increasing political pressure on the White House to release the text of the agreement.
