RAWALAKOT (Kashmir English): The University of Poonch in Rawalakot has taken a major step toward preparing students for the tech industry by organizing two skill-based boot camps through its Department of Computer Sciences & IT. These camps were held in collaboration with the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and the Special Communication Organization (SCO).
The initial boot camp occurred between April 24-28, 2025, which dealt with Mobile Application Development. One hundred and forty-six students participated in a practical training among them 52 students of the BS Computer Science program. Boot camp 2, which was conducted between June 17 and 21, 2025, gave 50 students on-the-ground experience in Game Development.
They form a wider training scheme that will implement more schemes as soon as a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed by the University of Poonch with PSEB and SCO in April 2025. And in an attempt to help fill the gap in between what students learn in the classroom and what industry is demanding, Dr. Adnan Ahmed Rafiq, Assistant Professor and former department head, made it his goal to develop a curriculum.
The boot camps were conducted free of cost, and participants were provided with refreshments and lunch throughout the training. Ms. Anum Nasir, who served as the focal person for the program, played a key role in its smooth execution.
The closing ceremony featured guest speaker Professor Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, a renowned academic and member of the National Computing Council. He inspired students with his experiences in the computing field and encouraged them to stay updated with modern tech trends.
The University of Poonch has demonstrated its commitment to student development by organizing these boot camps, which not only enhanced professional skills but also gave students valuable insights into the practical world of IT.
