WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): US President Donald Trump has hinted at the possibility of ending the ceasefire with Iran, suggesting that military action could resume if deemed necessary.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, President Trump said he does not currently see an immediate need to end the ceasefire, but added that “it might be necessary,” leaving the option open.

The US president claimed that military operations against Iran should have been initiated earlier and asserted that the United States has already destroyed 90 percent of Iran’s missile manufacturing facilities. He further stated that sanctions imposed on Iran are proving effective and that the country’s economy is under severe strain.

Reiterating Washington’s stance, Trump said Iran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and claimed that Tehran is now “desperate” to reach a deal. He also pointed to uncertainty within Iran’s leadership as a major challenge, stating that it is unclear who holds decisive authority.

On a different note, President Trump remarked that Iran should be allowed to participate in the Football World Cup, signaling a mixed tone in his remarks on the country.

Referring to South Asia, Trump again mentioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and claimed that he had helped prevent multiple conflicts, including tensions between Pakistan and India. He added that 11 aircraft were shot down during a past conflict and said Pakistan’s premier told him he had “saved the lives of 30 to 50 million people.”

Commenting on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the US president said the United States does not rely on the route, adding that the country has ample oil reserves.
