BAHAWALPUR (Kashmir English): Tauqeer Nazir, thesuspect accused of running over and killing a 15-year-old orphan boy in Multan, has been killed in a police encounter in Bahawalpur, police said.
According to CCD District Officer Irfan Akbar, police tried to stop two men riding a motorcycle on Bahawalpur’s Northern Bypass. The suspects allegedly opened fire when officers attempted to intercept them.
During the exchange of fire, Tauqeer was hit by a bullet fired by his own accomplice and died, while the other suspect escaped, the officer said.
Tauqeer had been arrested after the killing of Waseem Abbas and produced before a court, which granted police a four-day remand. He later escaped from custody, according to the police account.
Waseem was killed on Monday in a private housing society in Multan. CCTV footage showed the teenager running while being chased before a car ran over him. Footage from different cameras reportedly captured the incident from multiple angles.
Police registered a murder case against Tauqeer following the incident. The suspect was also assaulted by lawyers during a court appearance.
According to Multan CPO Akhtar Farooq, Waseem lived at an orphanage run by a non-governmental organisation. He had been sent to Tauqeer about a week before the incident to learn electrical work.
Tauqeer reportedly took electrical contracts for different buildings, and children from the orphanage had previously trained under him.
Police said Waseem wanted to leave the job because of the treatment he faced. He was chased after leaving work, and a car was driven over him, killing him at the scene.
