NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): The racist Modi administration is preparing to demolish another historic mosque as a notice has been issued to vacate the 100-year-old Race Course Mosque in New Delhi within six days.
According to Indian media, the Race Course Mosque is located near the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has a capacity for approximately 800 worshippers.
Reports indicate that the Race Course Mosque has been registered as Waqf property in the official gazette since 1977 and is recognized as a piece of historical heritage. It is also included in the New Delhi Municipal Council’s list of historical heritage sites.
Waqf properties are generally associated with assets dedicated for religious or charitable purposes under Islamic law. However, the legal status of a property and any restrictions on its use can depend on the relevant records and applicable laws.
The mosque’s Imam, Maulana Haroon, stated that the central government’s Land and Development Office has expressed an intention to demolish the mosque next week.
The electricity and water supply to the mosque have been cut off, and all its doors have been sealed, making it difficult for worshippers to offer their prayers.
Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq remarked in a statement: “Has this become the new norm for Muslim places of worship? If even a legally recognized mosque cannot be granted protection, what guarantee remains for other mosques?”
