ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) released its nationwide monsoon alert for the period till August 5.
It said heavy rains, flash flooding and urban flooding, along with landslides, can be witnessed in different places of Pakistan. According to the NDMA, there will be intermittent rains and heavy downpours all over Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh during the upcoming days.
Furthermore, the authority also mentioned that water level may suddenly increase in rivers, streams and glacial areas, thereby leading to potential flooding and landslides.
In case of Gilgit Baltistan, some specific districts, i.e., Hunza, Nagm, Gilgit, Ghizer, Tangir, Darel, Diamer, Ghanche, Shigar, Yasin, Roundu, Skardu, Astore and Gupis-Yasin can witness sudden surges of rivers and streams owing to heavy rainfall and accelerated glacier melt.
Flash floods in the mountain streams/seasonal waterways in Chitral, Upper/Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, North & South Wazirstan, Tank, Dera Ismailkhan, Bajaur &Mohmand Districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Rising level of rivers and streams all over AJK, especially in Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, Poonch, Sudhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Hattian Bala &Mirpur district by NDMA.
All the districts, namely Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Harnai, Sibi, Kohlu, Qilla Saifullah, Pishin, Quetta, Mastung, Jhalmagsi, Nasirabad, Awaran, Lasbela, Kalat & Khuzdar will be exposed to flash flooding in seasonal streams due to torrential downpour in Balochistan.
Widespread rainfall is anticipated over Punjab as well, causing probable flash floods from the hill torrents and the seasonal streams in Sialkot, Narowal, Chakwal, Gujrat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Murree, and Galiyat.
Urban flooding is likely to occur in the low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sargodha, Sahiwal, and Sheikhupura.
