COLOMBO (Kashmir English): In the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 61 runs, making Pakistan’s journey to the semi-finals extremely difficult.

In the Super 8 match played in Colombo, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field. New Zealand scored 168 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Mitchell Santner with 47 runs and McConchie with 31 runs were the prominent scorers for the Kiwis.

In response to the target, the Sri Lankan team could only score 107 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted overs. Thus, the Kiwis achieved a 61-run victory.

After two consecutive defeats, the Sri Lankan team is out of the semi-final race, and at the same time, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals have become even more difficult.

After the victory against Sri Lanka, New Zealand’s net run rate has become +3.05, while Pakistan’s net run rate is -0.46.

NZ play last T20 World Cup group match on Friday

New Zealand will play their last group match against England on Friday, while Pakistan will play their last match against Sri Lanka on Saturday. If the New Zealand team loses to England, Pakistan will still have some chance.

Even after New Zealand’s defeat at the hands of England, Pakistan will have to win the match against Sri Lanka by a large margin.

If New Zealand defeats England, the Pakistan team will be out of the semi-final race even before their match against Sri Lanka.

It is clear that England has already qualified for the semi-finals from this group.
