MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani on Friday called for a peaceful and lasting solution to the Kashmir issue in line with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

He made these remarks during a special meeting with a delegation of the National Security and War Course in Muzaffarabad.

The premier described Kashmir as Pakistan’s jugular vein and said the “relationship between Pakistan and AJK was rooted not only in geography but also in shared Islamic, ideological and spiritual bonds”.

He termed the Kashmir issue a nuclear flashpoint in South Asia, stressing that its resolution is indispensable for regional and global peace.

Gillani reiterated that the Indian government has illegally committed unspeakable and heinous atrocities on the unarmed people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), saying their rights and aspirations must be respected.

“India supporting unrest in AJK”

He also accused India of supporting violent and mischievous groups seeking to create instability and unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

“The people of AJK completely reject such violent elements and have placed their trust in the democratic and electoral process and their elected representatives to solve their problems,” PM stated.

Gillani said the development, prosperity and welfare of the Kashmiri people remained among the government’s top priorities.

Reaffirming the close relationship between Pakistan and AJK, he said, “We are like one soul in two bodies. Kashmir is incomplete without Pakistan.”
