TOKYO (Kashmir English): Japanese technology company Sony has introduced the new FX5 in its compact cinema camera series.
The new camera is equipped with a 16.6-megapixel full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a BIONZ XR2 processor, which also includes artificial intelligence-based processing.
The FX5 is currently capable of recording video at 60 frames per second in 5K resolution and 120 frames per second in 4K, while recording at 120 frames per second in 5K and 240 frames per second in 4K will also be possible after a future firmware update.
The camera supports Open Gate Recording, which allows video to be recorded in 3:2 format using the full width and height of the sensor. This feature will be especially helpful for creating vertical videos for social media.
Sony has also provided internal recording of 16-bit linear RAW video for the first time in its FX series, which will not require an external recorder. The camera also supports the company’s XOCN format.
The FX5 is the first camera in Sony’s FX series to feature Dual Gain Shooting technology, which provides improved dynamic range and reduced noise.
For better performance in low light, the camera has three basic ISO levels of ISO 800, 4000 and 12800, while according to the company, the FX5 is capable of providing more than fifteen stops of dynamic range.
Sony has not yet released details of the FX5’s price and availability in different markets.
