MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): At least seven people have been killed and two others injured in rain-related incidents since June 26 across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) AJK said.
The deceased include three men, two women and two children, as per the NDMA monsoon situation report 2026.
Talking with Kashmir Digital, Director SDMA and in-charge Rescue 1122 said that 41 houses and 56 shops have also been damaged due to heavy rainfall in different parts of the state.
He said Rescue 1122 and other relevant agencies remain on high alert and are fully prepared to respond to any emergency arising from the ongoing monsoon spell.
The SDMA official further stated that safety and awareness messages are also being issued through SMS services to inform the citizens on time.
Director SDMA has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the monsoon, stay away from rivers and landslide areas, and contact Rescue 1122 immediately in case of any emergency.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a total of 86 people died and 272 were injured across the country since the first spell of monsoon on June 26.
The casualties include 22 from Punjab, 51 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6 from Balochistan, and 7 from AJK.
More monsoon rain predicted
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted more rain, windstorms, and thundershowers across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), from July 24 to 28.
Met Office informed that a low-pressure area (LPA) is located over the southwest of Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Due to this (LPA), monsoon currents are penetrating the southern and central parts of the country.
Under the influence of this weather system, rain and thundershowers with a few heavy falls are expected in Tharparkar, Umer Kot, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Mityari, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur, Nosheroferoz & Thatta districts from July 24 evening to July 27 with occasional gaps.
Mostly clear weather conditions with chances of rain-thundershower also expected in Karachi on 25th/26th July.
“Isolated rain windstorm/thundershower is expected in (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur) from 24th (evening/night) to 28th July with occasional gaps,” the PMD added.
