Renown Bollywood actor Nana Patekar passes away

NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): Renowned Indian actor Nana Patekar has passed away in Goa at the age of 75. Indian media reported that the 75-year-old Bollywood actor died after suffering a heart attack at his residence in Goa.

Nana Patekar, born Vishwanath Patekar, was found unconscious at his home and taken to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula at approximately 5:20 AM; despite continuous CPR efforts lasting 45 minutes, he could not be revived.

Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Head of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, stated that a medico-legal case has been registered and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Patekar delivered memorable performances in Hindi and Marathi cinema, winning three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, and two Maharashtra State Film Awards.

Considered one of the most influential actors in Indian cinema, he was awarded the ‘Padma Shri’ in 2013 in recognition of his contributions to cinema and the arts.

He made his Bollywood debut in 1978 with the drama film *Gaman* and subsequently acted in numerous Marathi and Hindi films. After appearing in the 1988 Academy Award-nominated film *Salaam Bombay!*, Patekar won the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the crime drama *Parinda* (1989).

He won his first Filmfare Award for Best Villain for the film *Angaar* (1992), and later, *Apaharan* earned him his second Filmfare Award for Best Villain.
