MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Renowned lawyer Raja Aftab Khan on Saturday was elected President of the Azad Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association after securing a clear majority in the annual bar elections.
According to official results, Raja Aftab Khan secured 241 votes out of a total of 482, while his opponent, Bilqis Rashid Minhas, received 177 votes.
Breaking down the district-wise results, Raja Aftab secured 102 votes from Muzaffarabad while his opponent got 80 votes. From Mirpur, Aftab secured 79 and Bilqis 58 votes.
Similarly, Aftab Khan secured 21 votes from Kotli, 11 from Bagh, 11 from Palandari, and 17 from Rawalakot.
The elections, held today, saw 482 registered lawyers from across Azad Jammu and Kashmir cast their votes to elect the new leadership of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
Both candidates, former Central Bar President Raja Aftab Khan and senior lawyer Ms. Bilqis Rashid Minhas, had run active campaigns leading up to the polls.
