LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a major paid internship programme for young graduates and intermediate students, aimed at recruiting over 8,000 intern teachers across the province.

With a stipend package worth over Rs. 4.21 billion, the government will offer a monthly stipend of up to Rs. 65,000 to BS-level interns for 10 months and Rs. 55,000 to intermediate-level interns for 7 months.

The government officials stated the initiative aims to encourage young graduates and intermediate-level students to gain practical teaching experience in colleges.

Upon completion of the internship, experience certificates will be awarded to all participants, enhancing their professional credentials and employment prospects.

The government further said that a total of 404 seats have been reserved for minorities, 243 seats for people with disabilities, and 40 seats for transgender individuals, so that all sections have equal rights to benefit from this opportunity.

This program will not only reduce the financial difficulties of the youth but will also encourage them to actively participate in teaching activities, the government said.

Earlier, the Punjab Education Department revised school timings amid the intensifying smog and winter conditions across the province. The new timings will be effective immediately from Monday, October 27, 2025, until April 15, 2026.

According to the new schedule, single-shift schools will now open at 8:45 am and close at 1:30 pm, while on Fridays, classes will end at 12:30 pm.

In double-shift schools, the first shift will run from 8:45 am to 1:30 pm, and the second shift from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Teachers have been instructed to remain on duty from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, and from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays.
