MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The people of Mirpur Division largely rejected the shutdown and wheel-jam strike call issued by the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) for September 9.
As per the details, markets remained open, and normal commercial and transport activities continued across Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber districts today.
Business and commercial activities continued as usual throughout the division, while public transport and traffic also remained normal.
In Mirpur city, markets and business centres in areas including Nangi, Old Hattian, F1, F2, Mega Mart Road, Chowk Shaheed, Thothal, Kaliyal, and Purani Changi remained open.
Auto markets, vegetable markets, grocery stores, marts, hotels, workshops, and other commercial establishments continued their routine activities, while the movement of citizens also remained normal.
The strike call was also ineffective in various areas of Kotli district. Markets in Nakiyal, Khoi Ratta, Sehnsa, and Charoi remained open, and business and commercial activities continued as usual.
Similarly, commercial centers in Bhimber district also remained fully open, and business continued as usual.
Despite the wheel-jam call, traffic and public transport remained operational across Mirpur division, allowing citizens to continue their daily routines, buying and selling, and other economic activities.
Citizens and the business community said that the common citizens, laborers, daily wage earners, students, and the business community suffer the most due to the repeated shutdown calls.
They said that constitutional and legal means should be given priority to resolve public issues so that the business, employment, and daily routines of the common citizen are not affected.
Public circles stated that the continuity of economic activities of Mirpur city, and especially the division, is very important not only for traders but also for laborers, daily wage earners, and common citizens.
Citizens and members of the business community expressed appreciation for the role of the Azad Kashmir government, administration, and police in maintaining law and order and ensuring the continuation of normal life.
