ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning for citizens, revealing the growing illegal business of issuing fake SIMs under the guise of free mobile phone SIMs across the country.
In the warning, citizens have been cautioned not to get their biometric verification done by any unverified person or at any unverified place under the temptation of a free SIM, because through deception, another illegal SIM can be issued in the user’s name without their knowledge.
Officials say that if a SIM issued in a citizen’s name is used in any illegal activity, the user may face serious legal problems.
PTA has advised that for purchasing a new SIM, always choose an authorized customer service center or registered franchise of a mobile phone company and obtain the SIM only after fulfilling all legal requirements.
Unused SIMs should be immediately blocked
In addition, citizens have also been instructed to ensure that no SIM is registered on their ID card without their permission, and any additional or unused SIMs already registered in their name should be immediately blocked by contacting the relevant company to avoid any potential loss.
It should be noted that companies sell SIMs at intersections and squares to customers under the name of free call and internet packages, but no one stops them.
