ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Former Prime Minister and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervez Ashraf has expressed serious concern over alleged electoral irregularities in LA-12 constituency (Charohi) during the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) election today.

In his statement, Raja Pervez Ashraf alleged that PPP polling agents were forcibly evicted from several polling stations, while complaints of armed men influencing the electoral process and alleged fake voting have also come to light.

He demanded immediate action, urging the Election Commission to stop the results of the controversial polling stations of LA-12 and conduct a transparent investigation.

Pervez Ashraf said that after the investigation, re-polling should be conducted under the supervision of the army at the affected polling stations so that public confidence in the electoral process is restored.

The former Prime Minister said that free and fair elections are the fundamental democratic right of every candidate and voter. Therefore, any attempt to rob the public mandate will not be accepted, he stated.

Raja Pervez Ashraf demanded that the Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Kashmir take immediate notice of the complaints and provide an equal electoral environment to all candidates, and that the final results of the constituency not be announced until the re-polling is completed.

AJK PPP President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin contested the election against PML-N’s Muhammad Riasat Khan. As per the unofficial results of 50 out of 207 polling stations, Chaudhry Yasin is in the lead with 9,788 votes, while Raja Riyasat is in second place with 6,788 votes.
