ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The population of donkeys, horses, mules, and other livestock animals has increased across the country during the current fiscal year, according to the National Economic Survey 2025-26.
As per the survey, the growth rate of the livestock sector during this year was recorded at 3.8 per cent.
The report stated that Pakistan’s donkey population reached 6.16 million, reflecting an annual increase of 1.9 percent. Similarly, the number of mules increased by 1.8 percent to 221,000, while the horse population rose by 0.8 percent to 386,000.
Among major livestock categories, buffalo numbers exceeded 49.1 million, recording annual growth of 3 percent. The cow population reached 61.96 million, showing an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the previous year.
The survey further revealed that the goat population surpassed 91.8 million, registering annual growth of 2.7 percent. Sheep numbers increased by 1.2 percent to more than 33.5 million, while the camel population grew by 1.4 percent to reach approximately 1.193 million.
