Police officer arrested for demanding bribe in Mirpur

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): A police officer has been arrested for demanding a bribe of more than Rs10,000 from a citizen at the Dadyal Khidmat Markaz in Mirpur district.

The police spokesperson said that the cop demanded a bribe for verification of a character certificate from the Foreign Office.

A case has been registered against him, and he has been remanded in custody.

According to the details, the citizen, Saqlain, had approached the officer, Sultan Ali, for verification of his overseas relative’s character certificate.

SSP Mirpur Khawar Ali Shaukat ordered a quick inquiry into the matter, which led to the arrest of the police officer.

He has informed the public that a complaints cell has been established in the police department to receive complaints regarding police behavior.

The public can file complaints regarding police behavior, and action will be taken accordingly.
