ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday predicted dust-thunderstorm, heavy rain, and hailstorm in northern and central parts of the country from May 2.
A” fresh westerly wave is likely to approach the northwestern parts of the country on 02nd (evening) May and likely to persist in the upper parts till 05th May (Morning),” the Met Office said in a weather advisory.
Under the influence of this weather system, the PMD said that rain with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Khyber, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan from the evening of May 2 to May 4 with occasional gaps.
The Met Dept further predicted rain-wind/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls/hailstorm in “Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 02nd (night) to 05th May with occasional gaps.”
Similarly, thunderstorms and rain with isolated hailstorms are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal from the evening of May 2 to the night of May 4 with occasional gaps
“While Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm may occur in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Khushab, Noorpurthal, Multan, and Khanewal on 03rd & 04th May,” it said.
Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit Baltistan, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, and Shigar from 02nd (night) to 05th May with occasional gaps, the advisory stated.
“Balochistan: Windstorm/thunderstorm is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Kohlu, Zhob, Barkhan, and Loralai from 02nd to 04th May with occasional gaps. Sindh: Dust thunderstorm is expected in upper Sindh on 02nd & 03rd May,” it added.
