ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistani’s are set to enjoy three consecutive holidays in August 2026. According to the details, each year the government announces a public holiday on August 14.
Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on August 14. This year, Independence Day will be celebrated on Friday, which automatically gives residents two weekly holidays combined with the Independence Day holiday.
According to the estimated timeline, the holidays will be observed on 14, 15, and 16 (Friday-Saturday and Sunday) August 2026. This year, Pakistan will celebrate its 79th Independence Day.
Each year on the day of Independence, rallies and events are held in Pakistan to express patriotism. The day dawns with a 31-gun salute at the federal capital and a 21-gun salute at provincial headquarters.
Special prayers are offered in mosques for peace, solidarity and prosperity of the nation.
Last year, the main flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad at 8:00 am. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif unfurled the national flag.
It is pertinent to mention that the recent victory in the Marka-e-Haq against India’s unprovoked aggression has amplified the nation’s fervor for this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
Buildings in Islamabad and other major cities had been decorated with national flags, buntings and lights. People had raised national flags on their vehicles and rooftop of their houses.
Besides, stalls were set up at markets and alongside roads, and national flags, buntings, caps and children’s clothing in green and white were being sold.
