GHANCHE (Kashmir English): Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq died of a serious illness on her return after scaling the 7,027-meter-high Spantik Peak in the Karakorum Mountain range, the Alpine Club of Pakistan said.
The club said that 36-year-old Asma Mushtaq successfully reached the summit of Spantik in good health. “Sadly, during her descent at approximately 6,400m, she suffered a serious high-altitude medical emergency.”
The statement further added that despite the immediate and dedicated efforts of her mountain guides, who provided every possible assistance under extremely challenging conditions, she could not survive.
Her mountain guide Akbar Ali, together with another mountain guide, immediately provided her first aid and support, Karakoram Calling Treks said in a statement.
It added that they made every possible effort to help her and keep her safe under extremely difficult high-altitude conditions.
Karakoram Calling Treks said it is in touch with and cooperating with the relevant authorities to arrange for the return of Asma Mushtaq’s body.
The treks management paid tribute to the courage, dedication and services of the mountain guides in this difficult time and said that they are in touch with the relevant authorities and the family of the deceased and are providing assistance.
Karakoram Calling Treks has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and other relatives of Asma Mushtaq.
