ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Friday confirmed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been shifted back to Adiala Jail after a medical examination at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.
In a statement issued on X, Attaullah Tarar said that in light of the Supreme Court’s decision, the prisoner [Imran Khan] was shifted to the hospital [without specifically naming any facility] during the night between August 20 and 21 under appropriate security arrangements.
According to the federal minister, a team of qualified doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist, and physician, conducted a detailed medical examination of Imran Khan and declared him medically fit.
Return to Adiala Jail
Atta Tarar added that Imran Khan’s sister Uzma Khan was present during all stages of the medical examination and treatment.
After the medical procedure was completed, he was shifted back to Adiala Jail at around 5 am on Friday.

In a subsequent post, Tarar confirmed that Khan’s medical examination was conducted at PIMS, in which doctors from Shifa Hospital were also present.
“In light of the security situation created by PTI workers on the way to and outside Al Shifa Hospital, he was taken to Pims and, according to the medical examination, was found healthy,” he said.
He said that Imran had been provided medical treatment in the past and would continue to be provided them in the future.
Earlier on Thursday, a heavy police presence was deployed around Shifa International Hospital on the occasion of Imran Khan’s transfer to the hospital. His sisters and doctors also reached Adiala Jail, while Dr. Uzma Khan and Dr. Faisal entered the jail from Gate No. 5.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had directed the concerned authorities to shift Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital within two days for a complete medical examination and treatment.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed, comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, issued the written order on several petitions seeking Imran’s hospitalisation and his meetings with family members. The petitioners included Imran’s sister Dr Uzma Khan, his lawyer Uzair Bhandari, and PTI leader Mashal Yousafzai.
The order stated that “the prisoner [Imran Khan] shall be shifted to Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, within the next two days.”
As per the order, the court directed the concerned officer/government, in consultation and coordination with the management of Shifa International Hospital, to constitute a “medical board comprising a physician, a general surgeon, a specialist in internal medicine, an eye specialist, and a cardiologist” for the medical examination and treatment of the prisoner.
