CHAGAI (Kashmir English): After Gwadar, the district administration of Chagai district has also issued an official notification to close the “passport system” for traveling to Iran from April 1.

According to a statement issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Chagai, the current pass system for traveling to and from Iran has been suspended until further notice. The statement clarified that no person will now be issued a pass to travel to Iran.

According to officials, under the pass system, residents of border areas could travel between Pakistan and Iran without a passport and visa, and this facility was reserved only for residents living in the border areas of both countries.

The notification issued, citing an order of the Interior Department, stated that the facility of meeting relatives under the 15-day permit “passport” has been terminated with immediate effect from April 1, 2026. Now, travel to Iran will be possible only with a visa and a passport.

Earlier last month, the Gwadar district administration had also issued a notification to close the existing visa system for going to Iran.

According to a statement issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Gwadar’s office, the district administration has suspended the existing visa system for going to Iran until further notice. The notification states that no visa will be issued to any individual to go to Iran in the future.

It should be noted that this system has been used as an important and convenient travel facility for the local population for a long time.
