Trump welcomes FIFA move on Folarin Balogun

US President Donald Trump has thanked football’s world governing body FIFA for lifting a one-match ban imposed on star footballer Folarin Balogun, after which he has become eligible to take the field against Belgium in the pre-quarterfinals of the event.

President Donald Trump has welcomed FIFA’s decision. He said in a statement released on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’ that ‘Thank you, FIFA, for making the right decision and righting a great injustice.’

It should be remembered that Folarin Balogun has played a key role in the successes of the US team in the current tournament, and his return is being described as very encouraging for the team.

US forward Folarin Balogun was shown a straight red card in the match played against Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the United States won 0-2.

He was shown a red card for stepping on Bosnian defender Tarik Muharimovic’s foot during the match, which ruled him out of Monday’s crucial knockout match. Following the punishment, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also strongly demanded that the punishment be overturned.

FIFA clarified in its statement issued on Sunday that “the implementation of Balogun’s one-match suspension under Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code has been postponed for a one-year probationary period.”

After the suspension, Balogun will now be able to represent the US team in the key match scheduled against Belgium.
