SHEIKHUPURA (Kashmir English): In a demonstration of interfaith harmony and religious tolerance, a delegation of the National Peace Message Committee visited Farooqabad in Sheikhupura and expressed solidarity with the local Sikh community.

The delegation, consisting of members belonging to various religious faiths and ideologies, paid a visit to the historic Dharamshala at Farooqabad and assessed the condition of the Dharamshala following a collapse in one part of its walls owing to disrepair.

During their visit, members of the delegation said that they would work jointly with the local people for the restoration and preservation of the Dharamshala without harming its historical and religious significance.

On the occasion, the participants made it clear that the rights of Muslims and non-Muslims were safeguarded by the Constitution of Pakistan.

They asserted that ownership, identity, and status of all religious places, including temples, mosques, gurdwaras, and Dharamshalas must be maintained according to law.

Regarding any information about Dharamshala at Farooqabad, the delegation termed the reports misinformed and pointed out that there is no question of any change in its historical and religious status.

Committee members stressed that they would continue to maintain the tradition of harmony among religions and respect for the religious and cultural heritage of all communities in Pakistan.
