ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has sharply criticised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the controversy surrounding a recently conferred overseas award, calling him a “national embarrassment” in a post on social media platform X.

In response to reports of questions about the legitimacy and treatment of the honor, Khawaja Asif said:

“This must be the most embarrassing story that has ever happened. An award made just days prior to the arrival, use of cheap AI model to print the certificates, spelling mistakes that can be seen clearly, and then Narendramodi becomes first and the only recipient of the award. This engineered recognition is either the most pathetic attempt at popularity or the meanest gratification.”

Asif also said: “Modi is disgracing the Nation of India, he is a national embarrassment.”

This statement was made by the defense minister following media reports about controversy surrounding the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon” award given to the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, on his trip to Seychelles.

As reported by ‘The Guardians’, Modi beamed as he accepted the Guardian of the Blue Horizon award from Patrick Herminie, the Seychelles president, complete with a trophy and certificate.

Moreover, the publication reported that “Observers soon pointed out that several things appeared to be off about the award. The certificate misspelled “republic” as “repubblic”, and even “Seychelles” as “Seycheeles”. The award, it transpired, had only been created three days before Modi’s arrival and he was the first and only recipient.”

Additionally, the newspaper reported that “To add to the furore, when run through software, the certificate was widely flagged as AI-generated.”
