MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): To ensure the public has access to safe, unadulterated, and quality food, the Muzaffarabad Food Authority conducted a surprise inspection in the Old Secretariat Market. During the operation, expired food items were seized and destroyed on the spot.
Muzaffarabad Food Authority, Azad Jammu and Kashmirs (AJK) imposed a fine of Rs10,000 on food business operators who were not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs), while three others were issued warning notices.
Speaking on the occasion, District Food Controller Abrar Ahmed Mir said providing clean and safe food to the public is a top priority.
He emphasized that no one will be allowed to put people’s health at risk. Strict action will be taken under the Food Authority Act against those selling low-quality or harmful items.
He also urged food business owners to improve their hygiene practices and warned that those who ignore the authority’s SOPs will face no leniency.
Ensuring the supply of clean and safe food is very important for public health. When expired or harmful items are sold, they can cause serious illness, especially among children and elderly people.
Actions like those taken by the Muzaffarabad Food Authority help stop such risks and remind shopkeepers to follow rules. Regular inspections also help build public trust in markets. People deserve to eat food that is safe, fresh, and free from harmful chemicals.
By punishing those who break the law, authorities show that health and safety come first. These steps also encourage other businesses to improve their hygiene and follow regulations.
