BHIMBER (Kashmir English): Former President of the Muslim Conference party, former Minister of the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and prominent political and social figure of Constituency LA 5 Barnala, Mirza Shafiq Jaral Advocate, has announced a boycott of the 2026 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections in view of the current situation in Azad Kashmir.
“AJK election activities not appropriate”
Addressing an emergency press conference, Mirza Shafiq Jaral Advocate stated that in the current circumstances, when there is unrest, protests, and uncertainty in the region, conducting election activities is not appropriate.
He clarified that he will not become part of the election process until the complete restoration of peace, stability, and normal life routines.
He said that this decision was not made for any political interest but in the broader interest of the public, the peace of the region, and by keeping the current situation of Kashmir in mind.
He demanded that the government and relevant institutions immediately take effective measures to resolve public problems, establish peace, and bring the situation back to normal so that the public could exercise their democratic right to vote with confidence.
Jaral said that without peace, elections cannot achieve their true spirit and purpose.
He expressed his determination that as soon as the situation returns to normal and lasting peace is established in the region, he will announce the future political course of action.
