MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif is set to kick off his election campaign in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with a public rally in Muzaffarabad on July 21, ahead of the polls, scheduled to be held on July 27.
Former Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, will address a rally at Muzaffarabad’s University College Ground tomorrow, with preparations now in the final stages.
In a video message, the President of PML-N’s AJK chapter, Shah Ghulam Qadir, also announced that Sharif will address a public gathering in the region’s capital tomorrow and in Mirpur on July 24, Friday.
According to party sources, Sharif’s previously scheduled visit to Mirpur on July 20 was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Now he will address a major public rally at the Quaid-e-Azam International Cricket Stadium on July 24.
Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam and Adviser to the PM Rana Sanaullah have already reached AJK to oversee the campaign and logistical arrangements.
“Amir Muqam is personally involved in supervising the election campaign and arrangements for the meetings,” Qadir said.
During a visit to Mirpur, Muqam met PML-N leader Chaudhry Saeed to review preparations for Friday’s rally, workers’ mobilisation, and the party’s overall election strategy.
Muqam also inspected the rally venue and expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, saying the PML-N remained committed to public service, development, and prosperity.
“The PML-N has always been following the agenda of public service, development, and prosperity. The workers of Azad Kashmir are making full preparations for the historic welcome of their leader, Mian Nawaz Sharif,” the federal minister added.
After reviewing the arrangements in Mirpur, Muqam has reached Muzaffarabad, where he held an important consultative meeting with the local leadership and party ticket holders in connection with tomorrow’s rally.
Party sources said that these visits of Nawaz Sharif will play an important role in further strengthening the position of the Muslim League in the Azad Kashmir elections.
Earlier on Sunday, Nawaz’s Political Secretary Rashid Nasrullah Rana Sanaullah and Muqam met to discuss the upcoming AJK elections, the party’s campaign, and arrangements for the July 21 public meeting.
