SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): Resistance movements against Indian rule are gaining momentum across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and several Indian states, exposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s false claims that India is becoming free from militancy and resistance.
According to Kashmir Media Service, while Modi and his government boast of eliminating militancy, the reality paints a different picture.
There has been a notable surge in armed resistance against Indian occupation forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and a growing wave of dissent within multiple Indian states demanding independence and greater autonomy from New Delhi.
The continued armed struggle in Kashmir — ongoing since the 1990s — has resulted in the deaths of numerous Indian soldiers, contradicting official narratives of peace and stability.
Resistance in occupied Kashmir
Analysts note that the Modi regime’s repressive tactics, coupled with its divisive Hindutva policies, have deepened alienation and fueled resistance both in occupied Kashmir and across India itself.
The armed resistance against illegal occupation in IIOJK has been continuing since the 1990s against Indian rule. Moreover, many Indian states are rising against the Indian government for independence and autonomy from centre.
Over the past 32 years, on average, India lost one soldier and two civilians for every four freedom fighters. Between 1988 and 2019, the IIOJK witnessed over 56,000 militancy-related incidents.
In response, Indian forces claimed to kill 23,386 freedom fighters in all across India. The price was steep as 14,930 civilians lost their lives, and 6,413 security personnel were killed.
Indian forces do not differentiate between civilians and freedom fighter and kill almost any civilian they suspect of keeping grudge against Indian forces leading to grave human rights violation.
States such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, and Tripura also experience similar patterns of incidents of resistance each year, with considerable casualties among Indian soldiers.
Between March 6, 2000, and April 22, 2025, 4,980 innocent civilains were killed by Indian forces and 12,037 resistance related incidents in IIOJK alone killed huge number of Indian soldiers.
In 2024, total of 29 army soldiers including five officers were killed in resistance related incidents in IIOJK.
In 2025, IIOJK, Nagaland and Manipur are seeing exuberant rise in resistance movements against India. A total of 19 soldiers have been killed in resistance fighters attack in IIOJK in 2025 apart from 250 killed in Pakistan attack on 10 May.
Indian claim of restoring normalcy is dumped as resistance increases by Maoist and Naxalites in north eastern states. It has become evident that Modi’s India is under grave security breakdown. Resistance movement prove that there is growing unrest in India for autonomy and freedom from Indian occupation.
