ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The devastating monsoon floods and landslides in Pakistan have claimed the lives of at least 645 people this year, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
More than 150 people have died in the past 24 hours, including 144 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the NDMA report.
The deceased include 124 men, 16 women, and 11 children, while at least 137 people were injured in the same period, including 107 men, 20 women, and 10 children.
In a separate report, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that 314 people have lost their lives and 1156 have been injured in KPK due to torrential rains and flooding.
The downpour also damaged 159 houses in the province; 97 were partially destroyed, and 62 were destroyed.
The highest number of casualties occurred in Buner, Swat, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram, with Buner suffering the most, where 209 deaths were confirmed.
Chief Minister KPK Ali Amin Gandapur, while visiting the affected areas to assess the damage and supervise the relief operations, expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and announced a compensation of Rs 2 million for the families of those who died.
Speaking to the media, Gandapur confirmed that immediate financial assistance would be provided to the bereaved families.
