A Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued arrest warrants for five accused, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, in the May 9 attack and arson case involving Radio Pakistan.
The court ordered authorities to arrest all five accused and produce them at the next hearing.
Judge Wali Muhammad Khan heard the case, during which the prosecution submitted the police challan to the court. Advocate Ali Zaman appeared on behalf of the accused and requested additional time to prepare the defence.
The prosecution informed the court that the challan had been submitted and arrest warrants had been issued against the accused. After hearing the arguments, the court ordered the arrest and production of all five accused and adjourned further proceedings.
According to the prosecution, protesters stormed the Radio Pakistan building on May 9, set it on fire and damaged government and private property. Following the incident, a case was registered against more than 80 accused, including members of the provincial assembly and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.
The prosecution further stated that five individuals, including Sohail Afridi, were subsequently named in the case following a request by Radio Pakistan.
The issuance of arrest warrants is a procedural step in the ongoing judicial proceedings and does not establish the guilt of the accused. The allegations remain subject to adjudication by the court.
In the Radio Pakistan Peshawar attack case, the police filed a supplementary challan in the court against former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, former provincial ministers Taimur Jhagra and Kamran Bangash, PTI leaders Irfan Saleem and Aamir Khan.
Judge Wali Muhammad Khan of Anti-Terrorism Court No. 3 Peshawar issued an arrest warrant against the five accused under Section 204 of the Criminal Code (Cr.P.C.) as per the court order and adjourned the hearing till November 24, 2026.
Case by Radio Pakistan, followed by Shabbir Hussain Gigiani.
