DHAKA (Kashmir English): Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has made Test cricket history by combining nine dismissals behind the stumps with a half-century and a century in the same match against Afghanistan.
Litton achieved the milestone after scoring 53 runs in Bangladesh’s first innings and hitting 102 in the second. He also recorded nine dismissals as wicketkeeper, surpassing the previous benchmark set by former South African wicketkeeper Denis Lindsay in 1966.
Lindsay had recorded eight dismissals behind the stumps and scored more than 50 runs in both innings of a Test against Australia in Johannesburg. Litton’s performance against Afghanistan has now taken the record beyond that 60-year-old mark.
Litton added to his dismissal tally by catching Afghanistan batter Ikram Alikhil, helping him reach nine dismissals in the match.
His century also strengthened Bangladesh’s position. Bangladesh declared their second innings at 372 for seven, setting Afghanistan a target of 479 runs to win.
Litton Das Closes in on Another Test Record
Litton’s performance has also brought him closer to the record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a single Test match. England’s Jack Russell, South Africa’s AB de Villiers and India’s Rishabh Pant share the record with 11 dismissals each.
Litton needs two more dismissals to equal the existing record and three to surpass it, according to the figures provided.
His achievement highlights his contribution with both the bat and gloves, making him a key figure in Bangladesh’s Test campaign.
