ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): In a significant development, Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar on Saturday presented the 27th Constitutional Amendment bill in the Senate after the nod from the federal cabinet.

The bill was immediately referred to the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice by Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani.

The Law Minister said that we have consulted with the coalition parties. The points agreed upon after the consultation include the proposed Constitutional Court in the Charter of Democracy.

The bill proposes that the issue of judges’ transfer will be entrusted to the Judicial Commission.

Azam Nazir Tarar said that the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were delayed. The term of the Senate is 6 years and it is not dissolved.

To resolve this issue, an amendment has been proposed in the relevant clause, after which, if some time has been lost in the term of the members, it will also be included in the term so that elections can be held simultaneously.

He said that the small provinces had complained that the size of the cabinet had been kept at 11%, due to which the ministries are not being filled.

From now on, it will be increased to 13% so that one minister does not have to handle more departments.

The Law Minister said that after the recent Indo-Pak war, there is a need that the post of Field Marshal should be mentioned in the constitution and it should remain for life.

Similarly, there should be balanced titles in the naval and air forces. The MQM had proposed some amendments, and efforts will be made to ensure that they are also passed.

He said that the PPP took the points of amendment to its committee and asked us to bring the things on which the committee agreed to in the parliament so that they can be passed by consensus.
