DIR (Kashmir English): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has once again proved its incompetence as a rare snow leopard was found dead in the snow-covered mountains of Dir.
According to the details, the body of a snow leopard was recovered from the Lootkoh drain located in Wahat, Garm Chashma, a suburb of Chitral, which created concern at the local level. As soon as the incident was reported, the Wildlife Department officials immediately started an investigation.
According to wildlife officials, the real cause of the snow leopard’s death will be determined after the post-mortem report. For this purpose, the body was shifted to Lower Chitral so that experts from the relevant department could conduct a detailed examination.
Officials say that further investigations are underway to find out the full details of the incident and the cause of death. Local wildlife teams and surveillance operations have been increased to protect the snow leopard so that the safety of other animals in the area can be ensured.
The incident is being declared an alarm bell for the conservation of the rare snow leopard species in Chitral, and experts are urging that immediate protective measures be taken at the local and provincial levels to reduce the threats to the natural environment and wildlife.
