PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has proposed special “security challenge allowances” ranging from 75 to 120 per cent of basic salaries for police personnel serving in different regions.
A summary was sent to KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi for consideration in a major step towards fulfilling the long-standing demand of the police personnel.
The proposal states that police personnel posted in southern and merged districts would receive an allowance equivalent to 120 per cent of their basic salary. An allowance of 100 per cent has been proposed for personnel serving in other settled districts, while those posted in the Hazara region would be eligible for 75 per cent.
The proposed allowances would require additional expenditure of more than Rs5.15 billion per month, according to the summary.
The proposal aims to provide financial relief to police personnel facing security threats and demanding working conditions, particularly in areas affected by terrorism.
The summary highlights the role of KP Police in counterterrorism operations over the past three decades, noting that personnel have continued to perform their duties despite persistent threats and significant sacrifices.
It also argues that police salaries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain lower than those in other provinces, making special allowances necessary to address financial concerns and recognise the risks associated with their duties.
The proposed package could provide additional financial support to police personnel if approved.
