MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has announced to contest the upcoming elections following their massive protest movement last year, which has drawn huge support from local people.

In an exclusive interview with Kashmir Digital, Joint Awami Action Committee chief Shaukat Nawaz Mir said that the decision was taken after the insistence of people across Kashmir, who are fed up with the mainstream political parties.

He said that the JAAC is the voice of the people and no one can stop us from contesting the elections.

Earlier, the Joint Action Committee leader Raja Amjad Ali Khan said that the analyses are being made from different angles at the public level and they are consulting the people regarding the elections.

It is pertinent to mention that the people of Azad Kashmir are calling on the leader of JAAC to contest the elections after they staged a successful series of six-day-long protests in May 2024, calling for lower prices for wheat, flour, and electricity, in addition to other demands.

Earlier, the JAAC leaders said that we have nothing to do with politics, but now, as the elections are approaching, the leaders of the committee are also weighing up whether to enter the fray.

The entry of the Action Committee into the elections could pose serious problems for political parties because the majority of the public is supporting these leaders after the mass protest movement which led to cheap electricity rates and other reliefs.
