ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Several major motorways and highways connecting Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Taxila, Attock and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain closed or restricted amid heightened security measures, according to the latest travel advisory attributed to the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).
The restrictions are affecting major inter-district routes and could cause significant disruption for commuters and travellers, particularly those travelling between Islamabad and KP.
Major Routes Affected
- M-1 Peshawar Motorway: Closed in both directions between Swabi and Islamabad Toll Plaza.
- E-35 Hazara Motorway: Closed from Jhari Kas to Burhan.
- M-14 CPEC: Closed between Hakla and Yarik.
- N-5 GT Road: Restrictions/closure reported at Attock Khurd.
- M-2: Heavy transport vehicle (HTV) entry restricted from Kot Momin to Islamabad, while light traffic may use the route subject to local restrictions.
Islamabad City Routes Open
Internal roads within Islamabad are reportedly open, although strict security arrangements remain in place. Traffic conditions around major entry points and checkpoints may change at short notice.
Key areas where travellers may face diversions or restrictions include Faizabad and Murree Road, 26 Number Chungi/Tarnol, Rawat T-Chowk, Red Zone entry points and the Taxila-Attock connecting routes.
Authorities may impose additional restrictions or diversions because of security measures and the placement of containers at various locations.
Airport Travellers Advised to Plan Ahead
Passengers travelling to Islamabad International Airport from Rawalpindi, Taxila, Attock or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been advised to check the latest road situation before leaving and allow considerably more time for their journey.
Travellers have also been advised to postpone non-essential inter-district journeys towards Taxila, Attock and KP where possible, follow traffic police and security personnel instructions, and avoid attempting to cross barricades or closed roads.
The road situation remains subject to change, and commuters are advised to check the latest NHMP and local traffic advisories before departure.
