Indian Sikh pilgrim woman embraces Islam, marries Sheikhupura man

SHEIKHUPURA, Pakistan (Kashmir English): An Indian Sikh woman has told a local court in Sheikhupura that she has embraced Islam and married a Pakistani citizen of her free will and without any pressure.

Sarbjit Kaur told Judicial Magistrate Shahbaz Hassan Rana that she wants to live with her husband, Naseer Hussain.

Ahmad Hassan Pasha Advocate, a member of the Sheikhupura District Bar, represented Kaur in the court.

In her statement, Kaur said, she independently decided to convert to Islam and contracted marriage with Pakistani man.

According to court records, Sarbjit Kaur adopted Islamic name Noor after her conversion and maintained that she faced no coercion at any stage.

She told the court that the marriage took place on November 5, 2025, in Farooqabad, district Sheikhupura, with a dower amount of Rs 10,000, which, she said, has already been paid.

Noor reaffirmed before the court that she freely embraced Islam and chose to marry Naseer Hussain.

The marriage certificate listed her as a divorced woman and mother of two children.

Kaur was part of a Sikh pilgrims group

Kaur arrived in Pakistan on November 4 as part of a Sikh pilgrims group. After reaching here, she left the group and married Hussain.

Her disappearance came to light when the Indian pilgrims were preparing to return on November 13 at the end of their 10-day visit.

Following reports of her disappearance, police and intelligence agencies launched a search operation.

On Friday, it emerged that she had married a Pakistani citizen, and on Saturday she appeared before the local court in Sheikhupura to record her sworn statement.

Her visa expired on November 13 and it’s yet to be seen whether the she will be allowed to stay in Pakistan.
