LAHORE (Kashmir English): Following heavy rains in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a risk of flooding has emerged in various areas of Pakistan due to India releasing water into the Chenab River.
According to the Punjab Irrigation Department, India has opened all gates of the Salal Dam after heavy rains, resulting in a rapid increase in the water flow of the Chenab River.

According to officials, an alert has been issued for areas like Sialkot, and Wazirabad due to the massive incoming water in the Chenab River, while the situation is being constantly monitored.
The Irrigation Department has stated that the water released from Salal Dam is expected to reach Wazirabad within the next two days, which, they said, could create a flood-like situation in low-lying areas.
The district administrations and relevant agencies have started preparations to deal with any emergency, while citizens have also been instructed to take precautionary measures.
It is worth noting that heavy monsoon rains were recorded in occupied Kashmir during the last two days, and cloudbursts also occurred at several locations.
The heavy rains had affected several areas of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with floods, landslides, and road disconnections occurring in many districts.
It is also worth noting that every year Pakistan faces floods due to the sudden release of water by India.
