LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Punjab government has introduced a financial incentive scheme providing a maximum of Rs. 100,000 to get people to shift from petrol motorcycles to electric bikes (E-Bikes).
As part of the Chief Minister’s Green Credit Program, eligible citizens can avail themselves of a green credit of up to Rs. 100,000 by buying a new electric motorcycle and registering via the official portal. The plan seeks to reduce carbon emissions and clean up transportation in the province.
Eligibility Criteria
Program head Rizwana Anjum clarified that citizens who purchase an electric bike after December 2024 are eligible. Applicants need to provide the following information:
One of the program representatives will personally confirm the application. Once the verification is successfully made, a first payment of Rs. 50,000 will be made to the beneficiary.
Second Payment Based on Usage
In order to get the second payment of Rs. 50,000, users need to link their electric bike with the Green Credit mobile app. Users who reach 6,000 kilometers of travel within six months of enrollment will get the balance amount.
Scope of the Program
The government plans to electrify 2,000 petrol bikes and 250 other vehicles this financial year. The switch is anticipated to lower carbon emissions by 8,000 tonnes a year. The bigger goal is to transition 30% of Punjab’s transport fleet to electric vehicles by 2030, lowering transport emissions by 20%.
Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) officials explained that the scheme does not apply to retrofitted bicycles. It will only apply to new electric motorbikes bought and registered under the program.
