CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): Google is planning to merge Android with Chrome OS to create a new and improved desktop operating system.
According to a report by Android Authority, Google advertised a job for a Senior Product Manager, Android, Laptops and Tablets on LinkedIn, which was later deleted.
The advertisement stated that this position was to work on the new Aluminum operating system based on Android.
Now, whether this is the name of the new desktop operating system or a code name, it is not clear, but it is definitely an indication that work is being done to make the Android-based desktop operating system a part of desktop computers.
According to the report, Aluminum will be an operating system based on artificial intelligence (AI), and Google will use it in various devices such as laptops, tablets, and desktop computers etc.
Similarly, its support is also being planned for entry-level to premium devices. In short, this new desktop platform will be available for all types of devices.
According to the report, this new operating system will gradually replace Chrome OS.
It is also possible that Aluminum itself will be renamed Chrome OS so that Google can continue to use the Chromebook brand.
Support for Android apps in this new operating system will be available for desktop computers or laptops. Similarly, the experience of using Android tablets will also be much better.
The report said that the first glimpse of Aluminum is likely to be released in 2026, but it may take one to two more years to fully introduce it.
